Long Should A Jabot Curtain Be

CN5W - WPX SSB - A few stats

Our lack of performance on 40m is shown on most charts below ... Obviously in 60 kHz there is no room for a small station! It's a little better on 80m (our best time "low band"), since there is a bit more room, but the obvious conclusion is that the 40m is not wide enough to contest on SSB without big artillery. Guess why I prefer anything to the SSB?

Personally, my most disappointing contest from NC, especially one month after an excellent ARRL-DX-CW. First it was the SSB, and those who know me know that this is not my preferred way, far from it! Then propagation conditions very average. Finally a lot of intangibles that have made it had to improvise "quick" a fallback solution, the solution provided originally laid (CN8MC Rabat) proved impossible (beam 40 and still unable to close of 5C8A).

That said, this contest has still earned good time, if not during, before and after for sure. For, despite the conditions, Mohamed and Jean-Luc is still able to receive good runs on 20 and 15m, but the higher bands are not bands "profitable" in this contest in which it is better to focus on low bands because of the recognition awarded to two multiplier QSO's on 40, 80 and 160. Unfortunately, unlike the CW contests, it proved impossible to hold a frequency, and consequently hold a decent run of 40. It is clear that faced with multi-KW's and big aerials competition our dipole 40 and our pair of 3-500Z proved too accurate. Hopefully the opening of 40 additional 100Khz by 2009 will help to solve the chronic problem of lack of space for SSB on this band, so that stations do not have disproportionate means they can also enjoy, if only a little ...

So we will consider this contest as the positive, ie and the kindness of Moroccans that are or are not amateurs, food, Guerrouane, time (we had left Geneva in the Snow!), good atmosphere within the group, and a memorable evening at the "pitch" (our favorite endoit Casa) W7ZR with Dick (aka 5C5Z). A special thank you to our friend and supported CN8PA Si Mohamed, without which we could devote ourselves exclusively to tourism. Indeed it was disassembled and the rotor A3S its pylon, to reassemble at the "beach house" and then repeat the maneuver in the other direction ...

the Dar Bouazza Contest Group is Born

We are proud to announce that the Dar Bouazza Contest Group (DBCG) is born. Pending our fixed installation in Dar Bouazza (scheduled by the end of 2007), our first activity will be by the end of march in the CQ-WPX SSB, from CN8MC (the ARRAM club-station in Rabat), we hope with the callsign CN5W (ANART authorization pending but expected).
Mohamed CN8PA, showing us the place where the station is being located; next to his metal workshop.
The DBCG is composed by the following members
CN8PA, Mohamed : Our friend and host in Dar Bouazza and a very motivated SSB operator. Mohamed is young and learns fast (he's currently learning CW), so I 'm sure he'll become soon a "top-notch" polyvalent contester. He's also a good "ironman" and can do anything with iron or aluminium - essential for a Contest Group !
F5IQA, Jean-Luc : Although is preferred mode is SSB, Jean-Luc is a polyvalent operator. He has a great experience of both HF and VHF contesting. He is also a fine tech. A real value for the Group.
SV3SJ (F5VIH), Nico : Our Doctor ! (Nico currently works as physician for the CERN in Geneva). Nico is an excellent and polyvalent contester, an excellent "builder" and a fine cook !
F6IRF, Patrick: You have dozen of pages on my 2 blogs, to discover who I am, so I would only mention, that this group and the Dar Bouazza station is a dream that is finaly becoming the reality.
See you in many contests...
